The Restoration Of Human Rights Zimbabwe rolled out an expansion of the organisation in the northern city of Leeds in Yorkshire. This expansion was months in the pipeline and after much hard work in the background the ideas and plans rolled into tangible results in spectacular fashion. The event kicked off at 4 pm on Saturday 28th May 2016.

The meeting was opened in prayer by Patricia Nyawo and housekeeping was covered by Benjamin Simbarasi. Tino Mashonganyika, the master of ceremonies (MC), welcomed all attendants and kicked off the event by introducing ROHR Head Fundraiser, Xoliso Sithole and her deputy, Nicodimus Muganhu, ROHR Treasurer, Jonathan Kariwo, and national executive members Esther Munyira and Yvonne Makombe. The MC then handed the floor to the branch representative Rosemary Mupunga who welcomed and introduced the Branch members present highlighting their special contribution in the process of forming the branch.

Key Note Speaker
The MC introduced the keynote speaker ROHR Vice Chair Mrs Enniah Dube. She welcomed everyone to the meeting, introduced the organisation and explained the cause of human rights. She narrated the history of ROHR and the formation of organisation. She explained the expectation of the members and the responsibilities of the branch to other branches and their twinned province. She then declared the branch officially opened before handing over the floor back to Rosemary Mupunga who invited everyone for lunch.

Election of officials
After the lunch break members settled in to conduct the most important process of electing office holders. The final outcome from the process was reflected in a robust branch executive committee listed below:

The newly elected members were inducted into their roles and duties. They were also oriented on protocol, policy, structure and chain of command of the wide organisation by the ROHR Vice Chair.

Yorkshire Chair’s address
The newly appointed Chair of the branch took to the floor and expressed his gratitude to the members for placing their confidence in him. He indicated the tough battle that lay ahead to establish the branch into a powerhouse and springboard for developing the northern region and Yorkshire in particular. He expressed his confidence in the capacity of the committee to deliver on the mandate it had been handed.

Vote of thanks
The MC took to the floor to thank the branch and encourage the newly formed branch to work with zeal and determination. He urged the branch to establish itself and to support other older branches, in order to learn and develop. The meeting was closed in prayer by Rosemary Mupunga.
