ROHR ZIMBABWE PRESS STATEMENT ON WORLD AIDS DAY

E-mail PDF
ROHR Zimbabwe joins the rest of the world in observing World Aids Day. This is the day when individuals and organisations from around the world come together to bring attention to the global AIDS epidemic that has claimed millions of lives across the world. According to UNAIDS estimates, there are now 33.2 million people living with HIV, including 2.5 million children. During 2007 some 2.5 million people became newly infected with the virus. Around half of all people who become infected with HIV do so before they are 25 and are killed by AIDS before they are 35.
ROHR Zimbabwe salutes all men, women and children who are living with HIV/Aids everyday; who manage to fight the stigma associated with it; who persevere even in the face of hardships, poverty, non-availability of cash from the bank and crumbled health sector in Zimbabwe.

Come all Zimbabweans, restore your rights!!!!!

E-mail PDF
Many Zimbabweans wonder what ROHR is all about. RESTORATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS Zimbabwe is an organization that seeks to restore the human rights of ordinary Zimbabweans. ROHR is a non-party political organization aimed at empowering the people of Zimbabwe towards the achievement of Peace, Justice and Freedom. We campaign against the ruthless and insensitive dictatorship of Robert Mugabe and all would-be dictators. We campaign for the sanctity of life, equality of all before the law, respect and human dignity.
ROHR Zimbabwe is the sister organization to the Zimbabwe vigil that seeks to educate and enlighten the Zimbabweans in Zimbabwe and in the Diaspora of their rights in addition to raising awareness to the international community. The hope is that the people of Zimbabwe will speak with one voice to the international community against the government of Robert Mugabe, which continues to persecute defenceless and innocent the ordinary citizens of Zimbabwe.
We remain indebted to the President of the organization Mr Ephraim Tapa who is the brains behind the formation and character of this organization. We also thank his dedicated supporting team that includes the UK co-ordinator, Paradzai Mapfumo, Mr Wellington Munyemweri chairman of Kent, Emnah Zibgowa, Chair Birmingham and Des Parayiwa V-chair Birmingham. We are also inspired by the tireless efforts of Joana Zhira, organizer Stoke-on-Tent, Pauline Mutema chair stoke, Donnah Mugoni Northern Chairperson, who always make every effort to be part of ROHR activities, whatever it takes. The struggle to gain a democratic Government and respect requires dedicated members that will stand firm and fight for their rights to be addressed.
We are pleased to hear a significant number of people have come forth to join the rights organization. In Coventry Zimbabweans turned up in multiples asking the question, “where have you been all this time?”  We seek Peace, freedom, Justice, the right to life (basic needs) of which the regime has failed to provide for its people. The coming of Mr Tapa and his mission to restore human rights has answered many prayers and instilled hope in many. When he started, I do not think the President expected this message to resonate with many and be received with so much zeal.
ROHR will continue to call upon all Zimbabweans to join hands and fight for their rights. It’s time we stand up together and exercise our Democratic Rights, and to say enough is enough to Mugabe.
ROHR is calling upon all Zimbabweans to come and help us fight this good fight and restore what is rightfully ours.

Vigil UK, Des Parayiwa

CAPITAL CITY OF CULTURE HUMAN RIGHTS DEMONSTRATIONS

E-mail PDF
Once again Restoration of Human Rights in Zimbabwe(ROHR) activists in Liverpool were out in full force with placards as they highlighted the plight being faced by Zimbabweans . Braving the biting cold they continued to hand out fliers and had their petition signed in support to their cause. Their placards told their miserable story .Zimbabweans are now living in fear of the cholera pandemic that is spreading like wildfire there has been an upsurge in reported cholera cases during the past fortnight.

The state of affairs at major hospitals in Harare remains bad as doors have
been closed to the sick for the past three weeks. Harare Central Hospital, normally a hive of activity, was deserted hospital would however admit critical patients under special
circumstances.

ROHR would like to thank the community of Liverpool for the immense support they have shown since these demonstrations started.

For the record: 203 signed the petition. Report by I. Ndoro ( Interim Chairman ROHR Liverpool)

Bulawayo Demonstration

E-mail PDF
The “Demand for Justice and Democracy Campaign” demonstration scheduled for Friday 21 November 2008 in Bulawayo was subdued by heavy presence of police, army and CIO’s in the city. The demonstration collided with the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) graduation ceremony which Robert Mugabe attended. The heavy presence of the uniformed forces and CIO’s made it impossible to demonstrate but ROHR members managed to distribute fliers to the people in the streets. Members of the public however appeared unfazed by this hostile presence as they openly reached out for the informative material and approvingly shouted, ‘victory is for the people’.
The demonstration is a continuation of the Demand for Democracy and Justice Campaign whose primary aim is to see Zimbabwe hold fresh elections for a new government and a leader of their choice within two years. The campaign also seeks to push for the prosecution of perpetrators of political violence, post March 29 election and before as well as those who are looting the countries’ resources.
Whilst Zanu PF continues to arrogantly but desperately cling to national security forces i.e. Home affairs, Defence, CIO etc which are its conduits for orchestrating violence against the ordinary citizens, the Zimbabwean crisis is now at desperate and dangerous level. In most towns people are succumbing to Cholera every day, hunger and starvation is nationwide and major hospitals are closed.  Schools and Universities are either closed or failing to open. On the other hand the collapsed economy continues to cause severe suffering on the ordinary Zimbabweans. People can no longer access their cash in banks, can’t afford their daily meals.
ROHR Zimbabwe views the above crisis as a direct consequence of Zanu PF’s failure to govern since independence and the subsequent subversion of people’s democratic right to choose a leader of their own on the 29th of March. This nonsense must be stopped and every Zimbabwean, churches progressive political parties, civic society and the international community must take action to stop this madness.
The Demand for justice and democracy campaign will continue to unpack a series of protests until the people of Zimbabwe are finally allowed the opportunity to exercise their right to vote for a government of their choice in a free, fair and peaceful environment, whose outcome will be undisputed.

ROHR Zimbabwe in Wolverhampton

E-mail PDF

It is great news that the people of Wolverhampton finally came together to set up a branch for the Restoration of Human Rights Zimbabwe , a clear sign that Zimbabweans in the U K are totally fed up with the continued human rights abuses in Zimbabwe and are ready for action.

The meeting opened with a prayer from Mr Frank Mamvura followed by welcome remarks from Colleen Maredza, the event co-ordinator. Mr Paradzai Mapfumo, the UK Co-ordinator led the introductions after giving special thanks to the organisers of the event, Colleen Maredza, Joanna Zhira, Agnes Chivhimbo, Pauline Mutema and Senzeni Manyange Mukona. He ended by introducing the guest speakers Messrs Ephraim Tapa , Patrick Gore, Zvibowa and Joseph Nyamande. The speakers echoed one another by highlighting the importance of being conscious to our rights both as human beings and as citizens of Zimbabwe with strong emphasis being put on the need for active participation by Zimbabweans to address the situation.

Mr Nyamande expressed the importance of networking and bringing more people to join the struggle for change in Zimbabwe. Citing Indira Ghandi's famous quote 'YOU ARE THE CHANGE YOU WANT TO SEE IN THE WORLD ', Patrick Gore condemned the majority of Zimbabweans for their unwillingness to actively participate in issues concerning their country and yet they wanted to see a change taking place.

The president and Founder of ROHR Zimbabwe Mr Ephraim Tapa who is himself a victim of politically motivated violence gave a chilling encounter of how he was abducted and tortured for 23 days before he was rescued when the decision to kill him had been given the go-ahead by the regime. He told the gathering that it was his experiences of torture and near death, and the suffering he had witnessed in torture camp that inspired him into founding the organisation. Mr Tapa cited violations of the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the African Charter of Human and Peoples Rights and other international law treaties ratified by Zimbabwe saying that the suffering in Zimbabwe was needless and had to be stopped.

An interim committee was elected with the following members: Chairperson- Colleen Maredza, Vice Chair- Abraham Garanewako, Secretary- Pamela Masawi, Organizing Secretary- Charles Masawi, Fundraisers- Nancy Mangwandu and Blessing Mangwandu, Treasurer- Diana Maparadze Veneka, Vice Treasurer- Tendai Sithole, Information and Publicity- Veronica Chakeredza. Activists - Joseph Nyamande, Grace Motsi, Locadia Chigware, Tariro Masawi.

The meeting closed with a prayer after the national anthem.
